Our Story

We, Jackie and Valerie, embarked on this travel adventure in 2003 and we ran our first trip in September 2004.

We began with a single destination: the French Alps—hence the name, French Escapade, without a “s” at the end. That first trip was such a success that we went on to run it more than 30 times.

As our community of returning guests grew, many expressed a desire to travel with us again while discovering new destinations. We, therefore, expanded beyond the Alps to offer painting holidays across France, as well as Spain,  Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Portugal and also the US.

Over the past 20 years, we have continued to grow and evolve, navigating the many challenges that have shaped the travel industry—from economic downturns to global events such as the Icelandic volcanic eruption, the 2016 attacks in France and Belgium, and the Covid-19 pandemic. Through it all, French Escapade has remained resilient and continues to thrive.

During the last 23 years, we have welcomed over 2,500 guests, organized more than 250 land-based trips and worked with 100 international teachers. What began as a small operation has grown into a dedicated team of thirteen, supported by experienced tour leaders who share our passion for art and travel.

We are especially grateful to our returning guests—some of whom have traveled with us as many as 17 times—as well as to the talented instructors who have led more than 20 workshops with us.
