VIEW with Amid El Haddad: ``Daily Life``

How to capture the mood to tell your story in Watercolor

Day 1: Farm Daily Life

This farm is located about 3 miles from my home in Belgium. I often pass by this farm during my various walks in the countryside.

What first caught my attention in this scene, was the composition. My primary goal was to express how the light and dark passages intertwine, creating this magical scene. This farm seems abandoned. But when I decided to paint it, I wanted to bring it back to life through my imagination. I didn’t want to describe what I see but I wanted my painting to tell a story.

This is what narrative painting is about.

Day 2: Paris rue Rivoli

I completed his painting in July 2021, during my last stay in Paris.

Paris is such an inspiring city for artists all over the word. The beauty of its avenues and its neoclassical style buildings gives it such a special atmosphere.

What caught my attention was the Tour Saint-Jacques. The only vestige that remains of the church after its destruction during the French Revolution. This tour became one of prominent component of my composition. My goal was to capture the mood and the energy of the moment.

Biography-Amid El Haddad, AWS

Faithful to the tradition of Impressionist painters, Amid is an avid Plein-Air painter, producing the majority of his work outdoor. This has helped, over the years, to develop a narrative and scenographic style, which infuse a characteristic story into each painting.

Amid is adept at genuine and immediate rendering and avoids laborious techniques that could affect the freshness and translucency of the medium.

Amid joined the school of fine arts in Brussels to study architecture. During his studies he became familiar with basic rules of drawing and he got to know watercolor as his favorite medium for rendering.

His current activity as a teacher in a Watercolor School in Belgium and a tutor helps him to verbalise and share his craft. It also helps him to express his feelings more accurately and make his inner voice tangible.

Amid is a sought-after art instructor who conducts watercolor workshops in Belgium, France, Italy and the US.
