Day 1: Walk along the canals of Ghent.
This painting is about tonal values.
I often go to Ghent and pass this scene. I noticed how much it can transform under the light, passing dramatically from a common scene to a living painting. A strong summer light diffused through a cloudy sky convey a metallic glow to the water surface and the boats reflections. Spontaneously I could visualize my painting in my mind’s eyes and obviously, the boats and their strong reflections stand out as a focus point.
Day 2: Crossing Switzerland
If you cross Switzerland, you may be going through the four seasons in couple of hours. This is what makes this crossing so exciting. This view was taken from the car as we crossed Switzerland on our way to Italy.
I was mesmerized by this endless road that winds through these snowy mountains as well as the by the car’s reflections on the wet road.
I wanted to fix this moment and invite the viewer to take a seat in our car and share our journey and the feeling of being “On the road”.

Faithful to the tradition of Impressionist painters, Amid is an avid Plein-Air painter, producing the majority of his work outdoor. This has helped, over the years, to develop a narrative and scenographic style, which infuse a characteristic story into each painting.
Amid is adept at genuine and immediate rendering and avoids laborious techniques that could affect the freshness and translucency of the medium.
Amid joined the school of fine arts in Brussels to study architecture. During his studies he became familiar with basic rules of drawing and he got to know watercolor as his favorite medium for rendering.
His current activity as a teacher in a Watercolor School in Belgium and a tutor helps him to verbalise and share his craft. It also helps him to express his feelings more accurately and make his inner voice tangible.
Amid is a sought-after art instructor who conducts watercolor workshops in Belgium, France, Italy and the US.

In just two days of painting with Amid in the FrenchEscapade V.I.E.W class I was able to better understand the medium to effectively achieve the desired results.
