This is a sample of Mark’s abstract painting. It would be similar but not exactly the same for the class.
(in your own watercolor design)
Join Mark Mehaffey AWS-DF, NWS for an exciting class in abstract design. We will use Yupo paper to experiment and explore our way to multiple solutions for your paintings. Adding representational imagery to your abstract design will also be covered. “In this class we will work from YOUR photo references or your imagination to design YOUR vision from value plan to finished painting.”
The class is live and interactive on ZOOM
Dates: June 12 & 13 from 9am-noon PDT
Level: High Beginners to Intermediate
Participants: Max 20
Price: $178 for 6 hours
Medium: Watercolor on YUPO paper
You will love the forgiveness and workability of YUPO paper.
Made of Polypropylene, this surface is non absorbent and offers exciting textural possibilities.
Gravity works in mysterious ways creating unusual textures and the smooth surface allows the artist to also create many stamped, imprinted and applied textures of their own.
Because all the paints sits up on the surface of YUPO it is also easily manipulated and removed. There are no mistakes that can not be corrected or altered…which leads to brave painting!
The elements and principals of design are constant. Those we choose to use and how we use them determine our success. We will play with shapes, textures, color and value to create…..visual entertainment. Visual Entertainment is how I think of my abstract work. The viewer who is most important in this process is the artist. It is helpful to let go of producing a great painting (that will come after much hard work) and just enjoying the process of painting and learning.
Mark will cover both compositional and technical applications in the abstract format.

“Love, love love your online classes! I’ve done two so far and have really enjoyed both. I feel my work has improved a lot thanks to your online workshops.
You do the BEST job of these workshops. I love the pace, and the instructors are all so willing to stop and help students! ”
“Jackie, kudos to you for moving back and forth between screens and our artwork, as we asked a myriad of questions. It was fun and informative seeing everyone’s work along the way. Your gentle encouragement for us all to show what we were working on was much appreciated. Your calm manner and clear command of the vagaries of zoom made it a wonderful experience.
I will absolutely take more classes.”
“Jackie, the courses and quality of instructors you have cultivated through French Escapade V.I.E.W. is world-class. Jackie, you do such a great job hosting the program — you are on top of your game with production quality, responsiveness with quick replay links, and also announcing upcoming events to students. A side benefit is your fun, wickedly sharp and entertaining sense of humor. Keep up the great work. I’m not surprised that V.I.E.W. is expanding and doing so well.”
